![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 9/11
![]() Thank you for taking interest in what I have to say about the 9/11 issue. I will spare you my BS rhetoric and I will give you exactly what I feel about this subject.
I believe that 9/11 was not only a disaster for the American people, but it was a disaster across the globe. I mean this not in the usual American-egocentricism, but what I am suggesting is that the whole world is now feeling the attacks because American foreign policies are now becoming more dubious than ever before.
I would like the reader to keep in mind that there is no such thing as the "Orient" or the "East". If we are to accept these terms, we must limit our horizons for further growth. I would argue that it has been this particularly harmful perspective that has brought about the terror that we know today. In addition, we must acknowledge the fact that, no matter how easy it is to put many cultures under one label, there are still different cultures aside from the "Western" or Euro-American ideology. Because of this difference, we as a people, the American people, need to stop ourselves in our tracks before we rush into the crowd against all Arab peoples.
Because the many Arab peoples hold different values and maintain different cultures, there is no easy American answer to the 9/11 attacks. Simply murdering thousands in Afghanistan is only going to fuel a deeper hatred for America. Simply masking foreign policies with "anti-terror" appeal will only enrich the already prevalent distrust that America enjoys today. There need only be one thing that America must do right now, this day, this moment.
Americans, absolutely without question, need to become aware of the billions of human beings that live outside of their borders. An attack of this magnitude, as Bill Maher of Politically Incorrect stated on Larry King Live, opened a window for change. Though Maher believes the window is closed, I believe that the window was always open. It's America's callous ignorance and its limited, selfish and macho mentality that has sent Americans reeling and has empowered childish and ignorant fundamentalists. If it were not for the trademark American corporate social darwinistic attitude that pervades the people, maybe, MAYBE 9/11 would not have happened. However, there is no turning back now.
People of America, release your anxieties and let go of your self-centered blindness. There needs to be change in this country. We all know that we cannot guard ourselves forever, so pelase, PLEASE America, allow yourselves to open to more than just American interest.
I am by no means a religious person, but I would like those who are to pray for the hundreds suffering in Palestine/Israel. Neither side is right; neither side deserves to lose their sons and daughters to murder. God willing, there will be peace.
I would also like your prayers to go out to Daniel Pearl who was made a spectacle for the propaganda of blind, ignorant and intolerant fundamentalists. May justice come upon the murderers heads.
